 Since 2005, Helping with Furniture has:
- delivered furniture, information and welcome to more than 140 refugee claimant families in the Ottawa area
- relied on the contribution of over 5000 volunteer hours each year (approximately 100 hours each week)
- connected with low-income refugee claimants from more than 30 countries
- been profiled on CBC Radio and television, in the Ottawa Citizen, on Global National’s ‘Everyday Heroes’
- featured in a documentary “Midnight Movers” produced by Carleton University journalism students
- developed a website (www.helpingwithfurniture.com)
- charitable status in process
- established an annual fundraiser
- connected with thousands of generous donors in the National Capital Region
- responded to a need and service gap in the community
- kept viable furniture out of the landfills
- demonstrated that small actions can make a difference
